Built for matter-based billing
We built Hourvio for firms where the unit of work is the matter and the unit of billing is six minutes. Every note a partner types, every call an associate takes, every hearing on a paralegal's calendar has to land against the right matter at the right rate, with a description a client can read and a record a reviewer can trust. The math has to be right the first time.
Hourvio treats the matter as the core container. Projects carry their own rate cards, members, and descriptions. Time rounding to fifteen, thirty, or sixty minutes handles the six-minute increment through tenth-of-an-hour conventions. Approval workflows route each attorney's time to the billing partner, and lock dates freeze the period once an invoice is issued so nothing changes under review.
All data lives on European servers in Germany. No screenshots, no webcam monitoring, no keystroke logging — compliance obligations already live in the Bar, we trust your attorneys to record their own time. The audit log captures every edit with user, IP, and a field-level diff for the partners who have to sign off.
Six-minute billing precision
Time rounding at fifteen, thirty, or sixty minutes covers tenth-of-an-hour billing, with the rounded and actual durations stored side by side on every entry.
Matter-based projects
Every matter is a project with its own members, descriptions, rate card, and currency so attorney time lands against the right client without copy-paste.
Audit-proof records
Append-only audit log tracks every edit, approval, and export with user, IP, timestamp, and field-level diff retained up to ten years.
Lock dates for billing cycles
Advance the workspace lock date the moment a billing cycle closes. Entries become read-only for everyone except admins, with the change fully audit-logged.
Approval workflows
Weekly, semi-monthly, or monthly timesheet submissions route to the billing partner with bulk approve, reject-with-note, and rejection trails back to the author.
Client-ready invoices
Pull approved billable time into a branded PDF invoice with five layouts, matter descriptions, and payment tracking without leaving the workspace.
Set up matters
Create a project for every matter. Attach the client profile, the rate card, the currency, and the matter number. Projects carry their own descriptions and member lists, so associates only see the matters they work on and nothing else.

Attorneys run the timer or type entries into the weekly grid, with a description field on every row that lands on the eventual invoice. Time rounding converts recorded durations into tenth-of-an-hour billable blocks automatically, and the actual duration sits alongside.

Billing partners review the weekly or monthly report per matter, flag entries for edits, and bulk-approve clean submissions. The time audit report highlights entries that are too short, missing a matter, or missing a description, so nothing surprising reaches the client.

Advance the workspace lock date once the period is approved. Entries on or before the lock date become read-only for everyone except an admin, and the advance itself lands in the audit log with user, IP, and the effective cutoff timestamp.

Pull approved billable time into a branded PDF invoice filtered by client or matter. Pick one of five invoice templates, apply the firm letterhead, finalize, and the finalized PDF is hashed and stored so every reprint matches the original sent to the client.
